FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Leigh Davis Earns Endorsement from Clean Water Action for State Representative
Great Barrington, MA — Leigh Davis announced today that her campaign for 3rd Berkshire District State Representative has been endorsed by Clean Water Action, one of the nation’s leading environmental organizations.
Founded in 1972, Clean Water Action is a one million-member national organization that has helped develop, pass, strengthen, and defend the nation's major water and toxics laws such as the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Superfund, and others, including their state-level counterparts. Its focus is to develop strong grassroots environmental leadership by bringing issue expertise and solution-oriented thinking to the table.
“Clean Water Action is a national environmental leader focused on actionable solutions, and their endorsement is particularly meaningful to me," said Davis. "The contamination of our water supply, if left unchecked, will have severe and irreversible effects on the health of Berkshire County residents. I am deeply honored to be recognized for my advocacy in this area following a rigorous and competitive candidate screening process." Davis continued, "For decades, General Electric released PCBs into the environment, contaminating the Housatonic River and its surrounding floodplain. The citizens most directly impacted by GE’s actions were excluded from the settlement negotiations. As State Representative, I will advocate for a cleanup that holds GE accountable, prioritizes human health and safety, and fosters collaboration and transparency across our towns. Additionally, I will advocate for the takeover of Housatonic Water Works, bringing long-suffering customers one step closer to the safe, clean, and affordable water they deserve."
This announcement follows Davis’s endorsements by the Environmental League of Massachusetts Action Fund, the Massachusetts Nurses Union, Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund, Massachusetts AFL-CIO, Progressive Mass, 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, SEIU Local 509, National Social Workers Association (NASW-MA PACE), and 1866 Action Fund.
Leigh Davis serves as the Vice Chair of the Great Barrington Selectboard, Chair of the Great Barrington Selectboard & Planning Board Housing Subcommittee, and Communications Director at Construct. She is also a 1Berkshire Board Director, a Berkshire Blueprint 2.0 Advisory Council Member, a Saint James Place Cultural Center Board Director, a Lake Mansfield Improvement Task Force Member, and a member of the W.E.B. Du Bois Legacy Committee. To learn more about Leigh and her campaign, visit her website at www.leighdavis.org
